On April 6, 2013, AGBU Plovdiv celebrated its 103rd Anniversary since its establishment and by the active initiative and participation of the Young Professionals in Plovdiv organized a Charity Gala to raise funds for the participation of Bulgarian-Armenian kids and youth in AGBU and the Ministry of the Diaspora summer programs in Armenia.

The Charity Gala hosted over 220 guests from five different cities in Bulgaria, among which were HE the Ambassador of RA in Bulgaria, His Holiness the Archimandrite Abgar Ovagimian, HE the Honorary Consul of RA in Plovdiv, and a couple of the city’s past Mayors and a number of prominent city council members and politicians.

During the Charity Gala guests enjoyed a full on program with the participation of the AGBU Vocal and Instrumental Band ‘Erebouni’, the Armenian Dance Group ‘Nayiri’, the Bulgarian Dance Ensemble ‘Rachenitsa’, and were presented with video presentations of a few of the programs in focus of the fundraising efforts, mainly ‘Discover Armenia’, Yerevan Summer Intern Program, Scouts Camp ‘Antranig’, and ‘Ari Dun’.

The elegant Viennese Pavilion in Plovdiv added to the sophistication of the event and the beautiful décor created a chic atmosphere, during which guests had the opportunity to view the pieces in the auction of the Gala. All items in the auction came from Armenia – an Armenian duduk, a Khachkar made from the mother of pearl, and the main focus was on four pieces which had arrived from Armenia-art pieces made by the children from AGBU’s Children’s Centers in Armenia. ‘For Children By Children’ was the slogan of the auction which alone raised over $2000.

This initial effort marks the start of a sequence of efforts to follow in the future organized by AGBU Plovdiv to raise funds for the participation of youth from Bulgaria in summer programs in Armenia. It is the firm belief of the chapter, as well as the youth, that the path to Armenia will inspire the next generations and will nourish a sense of belonging like no other experience could!

‘Children and Youth – Our Future’ was the slogan of the AGBU Plovdiv Charity Gala which brought many generous local Armenians and natives under one roof and will assist the participation of young Armenians in summer programs in our motherland starting this summer!
